Tips For Calming Pregnancy Nerves

Hello!

If you have just found out that you are, indeed, having a baby, your thoughts and emotions may be overwhelming.

It really is ok to feel like this; having a baby is a significant life change, and even if you have planned this pregnancy, the reality of the life change might be dawning.

Of course, there might well be joy and excitement, but there might also be fear and anxiety, perhaps a sense of losing ‘control’.

These are all-natural; please don’t attempt to ignore how you feel. Only you and perhaps your partner may know about the pregnancy at this stage. You might or might not want to tell friends, family or colleagues yet, perhaps sometimes out of fear that something might not work out or possibly because you want to cherish the news privately.

However, getting the ball rolling with arranging antenatal care at this early stage is an excellent idea.

Here are a few things to consider;

  • What is your family's health like? Are there any known conditions that might affect your pregnancy? If so, you might wish to see a healthcare professional early for a screening.

  • What are your options for antenatal care in your area? Are you able to self-refer? Is that online? possible options are NHS (and if so, do you have a choice of hospitals?), Private care, Midwife-led, Doctor led (Obstetrician).

  • Diet and supplements (link here to NHS page on this)

  • Exercise and work (link here to NHS page on this)

  • Booking antenatal education online or in person. We offer our own comprehensive online course - click here to learn more and if you live on the Isle of Wight, we also offer in-person classes.

We hope these tips help and that you can give yourself some space and time to relax into your pregnancy.
