What Our Students Are Saying

Portrait of Juliet May, a professional midwife and antenatal course teacher, taken in a studio.

Meet Your Teacher

My name is Juliet May; I'm an antenatal teacher and practising midwife working for the NHS. I've been teaching since 1995, and in 1999 I qualified as a midwife.

In December 2019, my son, Oscar, had an idea that we could record antenatal classes to share online. We were aware that there is already a wealth of information available, but it is often scattered amongst different videos and articles, alongside less accurate or outdated information.

I wanted to create a course that brought evidence-based education for expectant parents all into one place. It needed to be presented in easy-to-digest videos, which you can watch anywhere at any time.

If you are looking to learn at your convenience online, save time researching what you need to know and have the ability to rewatch and recap classes, this course totally fits that bill.

✺ Frequently asked questions ✺

  • Unfortunately, many NHS hospitals are unable to spend the time that is needed on antenatal education due to stretched resources. These classes promise a very balanced education that is not limited by any constraints.

  • Knowledge and education have been shown to have a positive effect on women’s experience of childbirth; evidence supports this.

  • Perhaps you didn’t have any a/n education; maybe you had a different birth experience to the one you are hoping for? Possibly you simply want to spend protected time focusing on your new baby?

  • We are happy to say you can watch our course on any device through the course website.

  • We will endeavour to answer your questions as quickly as possible. You can email us at info@howbirth.works

  • As with our in-person lessons, we suggest the best stage to start your antenatal learning journey between 28 and 30 weeks pregnant (if you're ready to start before please do, you can always rewatch lessons!)
